Aren’t blood oranges stunning? Their deep, jewel-like tones are just begging to be made into a cocktail. At least in my world they are. At the Walker-Imrie home we usually make our margs with fresh lime and pineapple juice, quite a magnificent potion, as many a friend of ours will attest to. This weekend however a celebration was to be had with my youngest stepson coming home after serving in the armed forces in this fine country. A friend of mine gave me the idea to use blood oranges after she made something similar for cocktail hour at her house. I was glad she did because I thoroughly enjoyed it them. And such a pretty drink…with its salt-encrusted rim it looked like a diamond & ruby pool.
blood orange margaritas
- 1 cup tequila
- 1 cup triple sec
- 1 1/4 cups pineapple juice
- 1 cup blood orange juice
- 1/4 cup lime juice
- slices of blood orange to serve
- Mix all ingredients together. Pour into salted glasses over ice. Add a few slices blood orange. Makes 4 1/2 cups.
