RUSTIC HOME FURNISHINGS, DIY & CRAFT PROJECTS
There’s a creative being lurking inside us all, you just have to remember to bust it out occasionally. This is my little space where I do just that. I love transformations – I get excited & inspired by before & afters (both of the house & human kind). Here I will share some of my own before & after creations, plus other crafty projects like crocheting & doodle art.
A SIDELESS LONG TRAY
We made this long tray from old wood then painted it blue & white & distressed it. Added some succulents & simple white candles & when not in use in makes a fabulous table centerpiece.
HOW TO JUSH UP ON OLDER BUTCHER BLOCK
This butcher block was given to me by a darling girl who was the make-up artist on my TV show – Simple, Fresh, Delicious. She was moving & couldn’t take it with her. Originally it came from IKEA & had a flimsy back on it. We installed bead board & hung the cast iron frying pans from hooks. Not only is a good place to store the pans but it looks decorative. This butcher block has moved from Canada to The US with me. Then moved from Montana to Minnesota – twice. Minnesota to Florida & currently it’s housed in Indiana with us.
A RUSTIC HALL TABLE
Not knowing what to do with an awkwardly bare wall in the living room hallway area, we came up with this table that is narrow enough to make it easy to get around yet adds interest as well as being a good place to display things, like some galvanized metal.
A MAKE-OVER FOR THE DARK STAINED MANGO WOOD TABLE – BEFORE & AFTER PICS
Often when people don’t like their furniture they either put up with it or get rid of it & buy something else. With some effort you can take the furniture you have & create something you really love. Here this mango wood table that I loved the design of but not the dark stain, was transformed, stripped back to show it’s beautiful, original wood grain. It took a lot of work but the results were well worth it…
This is obviously a before pic. What made this job challenging with the uneven surface of the table & chairs.
It was shocking to me to see the vast difference between the before & after.
You can see some of the interesting wood texture in this image. Such a shame to hide that under dark stain. Not to mention the dark stain went with none of our furniture.
These throw pillows add a pop of color & texture to couches, beds, benches & larger cushions scattered on the floor for additional seating. Now all we need is a giant area rug to go underneath it.
CROCHETED CUSHIONS/THROW PILLOWS
Crocheted throw cushions add color & texture to a couch, a bench seat & a bed. Cushions are made to order.
